The time stored by Ubutnu is not understood in the

Windows apparently goes out to the 'net to get the time during installation, and stores the time the same way, but only after making adjustments for the time zone the user specifies.

The result is that one system displays the correct time, and the other doesn't. Correcting the problem on the system that doesn't display the correct time will cause the other system to now display the incorrect time.

Solution:

1. Use your favorite method to set the system time in Ubuntu, making sure the correct time zone is selected.
2. Set the hardware clock to UTC:
hwclock –systohc –utc
3. Boot into Windows and add the following to the registry. (Best way is to create a .reg file with the following code, save it, and run it.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\TimeZoneInformation]
“RealTimeIsUniversal”=dword:00000001
Done.

The a/c in Natalie's Honda gradually gave up the ghost last fall, allowing me to coast through the winter and most of the spring in a car without conditioned air, but today, I combined a trip to the repair shop with a trip to MD Anderson, to Dromgoole's, and to the bimonthly Lone Star Pen Club meeting to make a day of it, so to speak.

What Natalie and I had suspected was a leak in the coolant system turned out to be nothing of the sort. The a/c was full of coolant. The culprit would appear to be the compressor, which is not a cheap part to replace.

It was almost as difficult to see someone at the MD Anderson business office as trying to talk to someone there over the phone, but I believe a billing snafu might finally get corrected.

Dromgoole's was... tempting. For some inexplicable reason, they're going to have an "event" there tomorrow afternoon, but I have to ask myself—who can break free on a weekday to attend such an event? (I'd go, but I have to pay for today's "vacation" with some work at the keyboard, not to mention having a taiji session later in the afternoon and evening.)

The pen club meeting was okay, but the featured speaker had bailed, so all we were left with was a pick-up presentation by the club's president, which was interesting enough to hold everyone's attention, but far too short.

So, it'll be back to the grind tomorrow, I guess.

Cheers...
