Just do it!
Nov. 3rd, 2016 04:20 pmI've "backed up" my standing desk setup with a wood chair that's just high enough to let me work in an ergonometrically valid manner. The only problem is that—being made of wood—it's not particularly comfortable to sit on for extended lengths of time.
Which was kinda the idea. Stand more; sit less.
But between the chemo and whatever, I've found myself often collapsing into the recliner in my office after translating relatively few words and then wondering "Wouldn't it make sense to work while reclining?" (An adult question, to be sure, but the little boy in me could not help but imagine a pilot's seat, surrounded by computer screens, in some kind of interstellar spaceship.)
That being said, the reality falls a bit short of the mental image. To wit:

One does what one can, nie?
Back to reality, however, I know that—over the long term—working while nearly supine is A Really Bad Idea™ (probably even worse than working while seated), but frankly, it has to be better than not working at all while nearly supine.
So, I set up my "road warrior" configuration next to the recliner and have been happily tapping away for most of the day. I do not feel any appreciable fatigue, despite "missing" my pre-taiji nap, although my productivity has not been much to boast about, either.
That may be due to my getting up about every hour and walking around the house for about 15 minutes to keep the blood moving. And come to think of it, my productivity today has been better than it has been over the previous several days, so I should probably not complain that much.
I really hope that today has not been a fluke, and that I can continue to work like this for at least the next two weeks.
Time to start winding down and get ready for taiji. Tonight just may turn out to be another small, intimate session. I hope so.
Cheers...
