Looking over a copy of Failure Is Not an Option (by Gene Kranz) that I picked up at a church rummage sale yesterday, I notice that it is autographed by the author.

It is just that, his name written by hand, with no dedication or anything, and I suspect that probably something like half the copies of the book in this very local part of the world have a similar autograph by Kranz.

Still, it's a nice find for a dollar, as alas, sic transit gloria mundi.

Cheers...

A nice find. Maybe he, like many authors, had a habit of stopping by bookstores and signing copies of his books he happened to find on the shelves. I have several signed copies of books that I just bought off the shelf unknowingly.

Well, around these parts (a radius of about 5 miles from the Mission Control Center, from where the moon landing was managed), I suppose it'd be difficult to sell a copy of Kranz's book unless it had been autographed!

In any event, the local B&N goes to some lengths to arrange for visits by touring authors, who manage to sign dozens of copies the store hopes to sell. I've not specifically heard of writers going out of their way to stop at a store to sign books, but it certainly would not surprise me. :)

Cheers...
