Back, from the face of the salt mine...
Oct. 5th, 2003 09:06 pmIf I never type the phrase "general meeting of Company participants," it'll be too soon!
I could probably try to tough it out and finish the remaining 1376 source words and get the document "over with" tonight, but I simply do not feel like it. Looking at the bright side, 7000 words (or thereabouts) is a nice accomplishment. (I am reminded of one of my earlier posts, on the importance of planning, but I digress...)
I need to review yesterday's work for delivery tomorrow morning, and then bang out the rest of this charter and a protocol, for delivery on Tuesday.
* * * On a lighter note, I managed to confound a wrong-number caller earlier today. The caller's fatal error was to start the conversation the way Drew usually does:
Me: Hello.
Caller: Hey!
I'm hearing people noises in the background. Earlier today, I'd spoken with Drew and he had expressed an interest in possibly going over to the bowling alley. I associated the people noise to the alley.
Me: So, what are you doing at the bowling alley?
Caller: Huh? Who is this?
By now, I notice this isn't Drew. After another exchange to acknowledge the fact that the caller dialed a wrong number, we both hung up, though I'll bet my interlocutor was way more confused than I was.
* * * Yesterday's walk just about did me in, but that was probably because I insisted in reciting Kipling's In the Neolithic Age as I walked. It was also late, and I started to get cold.
Today, I cut through a neighbor's pasture to South Pagosa Boulevard and then began to walk toward Highway 160. Interestingly enough, Doug H., one of the local hams and recent new resident of a house I can see from my kitchen window, saw me walking and hopped into his truck to see if he could give me a lift. I thanked him and said I was trying to get some exercise, which elicited a laugh and we said our farewells. Doug is good people.
I don't know if I'm going to do the review of yesterday's translation tonight (I'm not favoring this alternative) or tomorrow morning (what's left?). Actually, I think I do know.
Cheers...

Date: 2003-10-06 07:35 am (UTC)Had to be careful with a certain Professor Cowan once, though. I abbreviated him as 'COW', which produced some rather entertaining results when I was working for the dairy council and found the good professor producing lovely rich milk after chewing on fresh meadow grass...
Good luck with the schedule. I'm playing 'ostrich with head in sand' today and pretending I really don't have 8 days' worth of work to fit into four, plus laundry over my ears. But hey, the suitcase rolled up after its Grand Tour today (with a rather impressive dent in the frame). Alicante, Madrid, Lyon, Zurich, Geneva, Lausanne, Neuchâtel. AFive 5 airports and 2 stations. Miracles happen, see...

Date: 2003-10-06 11:38 am (UTC)Fortunately, I started using 'gmcp' early enough to where I'm glad I did,...
...and if I type 'general meeting of the ...' (you get the picture), it'll still be too soon!
Thanks for the comment.
