Another 60 pages of material has arrived for translation. Fortunately, it's not urgent.

I say "fortunately," because I am feeling the leading, bleeding edge of burnout. Today, I've spent way too much time on e-mail (even if there is a larger volume than usual). I'm going to knock off for the day and go over to Feht's. He called a little while ago, and I think he may be in the same situation.

Skype has a feature where you point it at your address book and the service searches for a match between people in your address book and those who have signed up with SKype.

More specifically, for people with names identical to those in your address book.

A little while ago, I went through the exercise and when the results came back, I was pleasantly surprised to see 28 "hits," but was not really paying attention (until just as I was applying muscle pressure to click the "OK" button) to realize that this only represented people whom I might know. After winnowing out folks who were complete strangers, the number of contacts added to my Skype profile was less than a half-dozen.

The reverse happened a couple of days ago, apparently. I got a "request to connect," which is not actually a Skype call, but more along the lines of a "will you let me view your online availability in my contact list" query. Before clicking yes, I checked out the requestor's profile. It turned out to be an attorney who does business in... Russia! I agreed to the request.

Last night, said contact was online, so I initiated a chat. It turns out I have the same name as a buddy of his who owns some high-tech companies. I tell him what I do for a living, and we go on from there. I don't know if this will result in any additional work, but I'm not letting go of the contact.

An interesting animal, this Internet.

Cheers...
