I can't remember the last time an interpretation assignment was so intense. Part of the intensity, however, has to do with the fact that the client likes to play hard as well as work hard.

Yesterday, for example, the technical lead arranged with his brother, who is a balloon pilot, to take us up in his balloon, the Sunset Rise, but unfortunately, the wind picked up before the envelope could be inflated, so we had to content ourselves with a "dry run" and a glance at a giant helium balloon that floated by on its way to parts unknown. Afterward, everyone went to breakfast and then I put in an 8-hour day together with everyone else. By the time I got back to the hotel, I was so tired that I imagined I had already written a quick post from the office, and went to sleep early.

Today, Fate smiled on our little group in more ways than one. An event sponsored by the local Albuquerque club took place at Balloon Fiesta Park, which is the venue of a huge annual festival where balloons take off in waves (they won't all fit on the field at the same time). So we got to see about 80-100 balloons deploy and take off, including our own.

I stayed on the ground while the Russians and Maya went up first, and then went up with the second shift for a fairly nice ride.

It was back to work for about 4 hours in the afternoon, though, and the day finished off with a nice dinner at a restaurant named, if memory serves, El Pinto.

I will try to post photos of the balloon event tomorrow. Right now, I just finished a "side" translation that's been simmering for a few days. I'm going to let it simmer for one more night (although it's ready to deliver now, if need be) and send it tomorrow during lunch.

Cheers...

You're a truly spoilt man, you know that? A balloon ride in the Albuquerque 'monster lift-off' and you say it's fairly nice??

Blase, that's what you are! I'm quivering with envy, remembering the one flight I was on in St. Louis SOOOO many years ago.... Such a magical trip for an earthbound (and now a mostly housebound human. Cherish these times, dear heart, for one never can tell when one's wings may be clipped.

Actually, what you observe is an unintended side effect both of trying to write a post in a very short time and of a kind of self-censorship imposed by habit for historical reasons. Were I to wax poetic regarding the experience (a thing I am truly inclined to do), Certain Parties might conclude that such a thing as Too Much Fun™ has occurred.

Cheers...

IS there such a thing as Too Much Fun? ::sigh:: Don't forget to share the giddy part with the kids, that's all!
