I don't clearly remember what I've been doing most of the day, because here it is, nearly midnight, and while I am cognizant of the fact that I've done little in the way of translation since 5 pm, when I lay down for a one hour nap, I'm trying to figure out how the the rest of the day was frittered.
One thing I did not do was watch TV. The one time I walked past the set while it was on this morning, some talking head was carrying on about the Imus affiar, to which I say: "Enough, already!" About the only amusing thing in the 30 seconds I spent within earshot of the tube was the speaker arguing that attempts to draw any parallels between the "poetry" of black rap artists and what Imus said would lead to curvature of the spine, impede the war in Iraq, or something equally idiotic. I found it amusing because basically, what it seemed to me the speaker was saying was that holding entertainers to account for what they say regardless of their race is, well... racist. Go figure.
Otherwise, I did another exercise session, and recorded my BP over a 15 minute recovery period. Afterwards, Galina and I went to get another toner cartridge for the laser printer and some victuals for this evening's dinner with Natalie. (And don't misunderstand, I did get some translation done, just... not enough!)
Natalie came over around 6 pm and between cooking various parts of dinner, I helped her troubleshoot the new computer she assembled from parts. The tricky part had to do with the fact that the motherboard has more switches on it than the cockpit of a 747, so unless you're up on what all of them do, you are likely to be disappointed when you turn on the machine and find nothing is going on (the part where the power supply fan isn't turning is a particular turn-off).
After dinner, I eventually stumbled on the solution (reading the mother... board manual helps), and after tuning the new DVD writer for maximum smoke (it's fried, okay?) and replacing it with my old DVD drive, Natalie has been formatting her new disk and installing software on it (and speaking for an inordinately long time on her cell). Fortunately, she's not installing Vista, so she's not going to be facing those little "gotchas" that are just coming to light recently (like backing up data that can't be restored (or, presumably, deleted) unless you upgrade to a more advanced version of Vista! Yeow! That's gotta hurt!).
It's getting late, Natalie will doubtless be up for a while, and I need my beauty rest.
Cheers...
