I ended up going to sleep last night at around 11 pm, after watching a French film titled Va Savoir, which was billed as "an elegant and utterly charming comedy," which translated into a 2-1/2 hour film with hardly anything funny enough to elicit a laugh, though the dialog was of a type as to allow me to almost understand the parts played in Italian, fer cryin' out loud.

This resulted in my rising late this morning, and after a round of garage-saling (cost: $20), bread-making (see below), transplating (see below), I find myself in the late afternoon looking forward to a visit by Natalie, while WinAlign sits in the background, giving a very good impression of an application that is "not responding".

In yesterday's bread recipe, I replaced about 1/2-cup of flour with 8-grain cereal. The result, while edible, turned out about half the size of my very first attempt at bread-making, which was dense to start with (yesterday's loaf is edible, but very dense). I suspect the cereal may have sucked up some of the water that should have gone into dough-making. In putting together today's recipe, I pre-soaked the cereal, leaving everything else the same. Hopefully, the loaf will be bigger.

A long time ago, I cut apart a small plastic water bottle so that the top (conical) portion just fit when inserted - narrow end down - into the bottom (cylindrical) portion. So positioned, the conical portion served as an ideal "seat" for an avocado pit that I decided to soak until something happened. Well, nothing happened for months, and a couple of weeks ago, when I noticed that the pit had actually split, I was close to throwing the thing out, when it occurred to me that the split might be a good sign, so I left it alone.

Earlier this afternoon, I transplanted a little seedling (about 6" high and very thin, with a few scraggly roots coming out the bottom) into some soil. We'll see how it does in that environment.

Sure enough, WinAlign (a tool that splits text files and allows you to associate "segments" in pairs of files, which is very useful if you have a source and target translation hanging out on your hard drive) is in a nonresponsive state. I'll give it one more try, and then get ready for Natalie.

Cheers...
