Bringing up Linux...

alexpgpGot a cheap P166 box so I could have a Linux box down here in Texas. What I forgot was that the monitor sitting on top of it is missing the G and B part of RGB.
No biggie. I can at least maintain my skills. I really want to know what makes Samba tick...I had it working once on my network, and then it stopped and nothing I have done has fixed it.
It took a while, but I finally found a "real" modem for the Linux box (as opposed to a "Winmodem," which relies upon Windows software to work and which, natch, would be about as useful as a Pong machine in a Linux environment). The good news is that I finally got the thing to work. The better news is that the reason it didn't for a while was because when it went off-hook, the rapid beep provided by my miserable voice mail service kept it from realizing that there was a dial tone out there after all. ("Better" because I didn't have to break out a soldering iron; too, it gives me a good reason to cut the service.)
Today's sim was pretty stressful. Over nine hours, and the folks on the simulator side of the house earned their pay, and made sure that everyone else did too. Lots of failures that caused people to put on their thinking caps and put them into overdrive. Lots of voice traffic between the simulated FCR, the simulated ISS, and the simulated Shuttle. And me, there, in the middle, trying to filter out only the voice traffic going between the MCC and the station and interpreting that simultaneously, mostly for the benefit of the Russians involved in the training.
Tomorrow, it's back to Execute Package.
Tonight, though...it's sleepy time, starting shortly!
