Oh, for crying out LOUD...
Jul. 24th, 2001 08:15 amMaybe this has been going on for a while, but checking into the iWon portal reveals a new twist: an audio soundtrack to go along with their banner-strewn Web page.
For McDonald's, no less. Ye gods.
Personally, I really despise background audio in e-mails and Web pages. Thankfully, to date, the number of such messages and pages has been minuscule. The down side of that is that, because this phenomenon is rare, I've never investigated to see if there's a way to turn audio off in web browsers, the same way one can elect to not download images?
No matter. For the time being, the standard method for dealing with this shall be the liberal use of the "Delete" and "Back" keys, as required
Cheers...

Date: 2001-07-24 09:10 am (UTC)I do this because random sounds, even nice sounds, screw up my mp3s (unsure if it's a crappy-drivers or a crappy-mp3 player issue. don't care, really -- as the /. .sig says "If I wanted your website to make noise, I would have spit on my finger and rubbed it across the screen")

Date: 2001-07-24 06:13 pm (UTC)I've always been of the oppinion that all email should be text only with html, if it's absolutely necessary, as an attachment only. I very grudgingly may accept that html may have a place in email now, though I'll miss being able to read my email without a webbrowser. I still send only pure text, though.
I still don't accept links to anything outside of the message (including images) in mail messages, and I absolutely disapprove of all java and javascript in them.
Just a random rave in someone else's journal :)
