Doing some winter housekeeping...

The mass of snow and ice on our roof moves glacier-like off the edges of the house, and every once in a while, you just have to do something about it (or risk having the house disappear under the snow!).

That amount of ice must weight a lot.... does it do a lot of damage to the roof?

Not much at all, really. Keep in mind that I was cracking up the ice layer with a short length of 2x4.

Thanks. To tell the truth, it sort of startled me the first time it all came down at once, but once you realize you're actually in no danger, it is kinda cool.
