One of my buttons is the faux snobbery that invariably accompanies any mention of a year ending in 00 as "the last year of the century." I had hoped that, having ticked the tens place in this most current century, the issue had gone back into hibernation, like the occasional monster from The X Files.

But no, somewhere in the middle of The Big Edit™, I see:
In the last year of the 19th century, XYZ participated in the World's Fair that opened on April 15, 1900.
Personally, I'd have been a lot more informed if the author had refrained from trying to be mathematically cute and mentioned instead where the Fair was being held, but that's just me, I guess.

I had included a comment in my edit, which read:
A year numbering system that does not acknowledge zero, comes into use somewhere after more than 300 years have passed, turns out to have missed the actual year of its raison d'être by 3-4 years, drops 10 days from one year to bring it into whack with reality, and shifts the start of the year to January 1 from some time in March for the same reason is simply not persuasive when it attempts to score points with mathematical pedantry.
On reflection, though, I decided to delete it from my edit, just because I'm that kind of person.

Cheers...
