Apparently, the third leg of this weekend's work, involving the incorporation of revisions that include about 10 pages of new material, was compiled—and I shall speak charitably here—using some other version of the document than the one I possess as the baseline for making revisions.

In fact, the document I'm to work with gives every indication of having been massively rewritten and reorganized before it occurred to anyone to start keeping track of revisions (although it doesn't really explain how a figure number can be shown as new text without showing an old number as deleted text).

But I'm sure I'm mistaken.

I mean, what kind of scrofulous, misbegotten, and mentally imbalanced offspring of what shallow-end-of-the-gene-pool biological blob, what anonymous evolutionary dead-end do you have to be to produce this kind of "revision" (whose signal is indistinguishable from noise) and still be capable of breathing without an instruction manual, not to mention stay employed?

Grrr.

Of course, I shall complete this job, because there are no rules out there requiring translators to treat their word processing programs with humaneness, decency, or respect. And when the job is done, I shall take a long, luxuriant shower and try to wash the stink of this document from my hide, and then go memorize several hundred random digits so as to bring my mind back from the abyss.

Nice thought! But if it were up to me, I'd insert a sic about every other line!

Then again, I've already come up with a "Translator's Note" for the first page. Printing it out will require flame-retardant paper.
