Escape...?

It worked for my parents' generation... it doesn't work too well for me.
I went to the local cinema emporium and checked into the most idiotic film on the menu, Rush Hour 2. It was mildly amusing, and it's always nice to see films where the bad guys get their comeuppance in the end, but the effect faded almost by the time I got to the car. Afterward, I ate dinner at an Outback steakhouse, where you are never more than an eyeglance away from a damned television set, which didn't do much for my appetite.
Especially after seeing, with horror welling up yet again, new (for me) footage showing the first attack on the WTC and the second attack from a different angle, showing the aircraft simply disappearing into the south tower before exploding.
I had already noticed, while watching Rush Hour 2, that the appearance on the screen of a large airplane in flight caused me to tense up. I may well be a basket case on Saturday when it comes time to go home. For sure, the tube indicates that a whole raft of new security measures will be in place by that time, but I distrust such measures; they will not stop a determined adversary.
New security measures will be in force at JSC tomorrow morning, too, I am told. I got a call from my client's office telling me to go on into work tomorrow, and was informed of several new security measures that will be in place to keep the center from being a victim of terrorism.
Cheers...

Date: 2001-09-13 12:07 am (UTC)Bureaucrats are petrified of anything happening that might cause them to be accused of ignoring people's "safety" so they overreact and would prefer to shut the world down than stand accused of anything like thinking for themselves.
Faugh.
