Almost happy there was no work today...

It was one of those days where events do their best to overcome you, and almost succeed.
Presents went out via UPS to Colorado. For some reason, I had miscalculated the number of days it takes to deliver stuff from New York to Colorado, which resulted in having to send the package via the UPS 3-day Express Saver service.
In other news, it was time to send in Yet Another Visa Application (in case I should need to travel to Russia), and although there was no deadline to meet per se, I had assured the requesting party that I'd send the requisite materials today.
That goal, however, was put in jeopardy when it turned out that most of the places around here that do passport/visa photos (e.g., CVS Pharmacy) are backed up like crazy printing out holiday photo cards for people. The first place I went to said I would only be able to pick up my photos tomorrow. The second place—the passport window at the Glen Cover post office—was not open. Finally, the third place I visited managed to do the job on a short-turnaround basis (avoiding the huge backlog of holiday photo cards in the pipe), and so in the end I was able to dispatch the envelope with my visa materials today after all.
Time to go take it easy.
Cheers...
