I awoke somewhere between 3 and 4 am. At least that's my perception, because I didn't fire up my phone to check the time until after 4:30. I did the slug-a-bed number up in the den until mid-morning, to let Galina catch some shuteye, as she also had something of a sleepless night.

We've been having all sorts of fun figuring out various alternatives for getting from Here to There, and one thing became blazingly clear: although we probably have too much stuff to put into the Ford and the Q45, it's not really enough stuff to warrant hiring a 16-foot truck and car dolly (and the truck is a 16-footer because of the car dolly), especially given the price of gas.

We have scads less stuff in the house now than when we rented it out three years ago, so hopefully, it won't be all that difficult to arrange the stuff we're keeping here in a nice neat pile in a corner of the basement. We certainly have a lot fewer books, that's for sure.

Among items found today was a book given to me as a souvenir during my first trip to the USSR, back on September 23, 1975. I also unearthed a cassette recording made on April 27, 1971, of a visit to Stony Brook by Jerome Tuccille, author of (among many other books) It Usually Begins With Ayn Rand.

Before embarking on a career in investment banking, Tuccille was well-known in libertarian circles and ran for governor of New York (as a Free Libertarian, if memory serves). His visit to what was known at the time as "Kelly C" (back before the building became known as Lenny Bruce College) to address our little circle of students-of-Objectivism even made it into IUBWAR (although I seem to recall it was more to poke fun at our group than anything else).

While rummaging about, I also found an English translation of Bocaccio's Decameron (the same rather dated translation you can get for the Kindle for free via Amazon) and—a bit more useful—a copy of Army Technical Manual TM 30-944, Dictionary of Spoken Russian, published in 1945.

It's still early, but it's been a long day.

Cheers...
