...not!

Filling out paperwork for a new client (an 8-page NDA!) took quite some time, as the file was in PDF/A format that doesn't allow editing. There was also a PO that required a signature (and we've talked about that earlier). Which eventually led to actually making out an invoice. All told, the minimum fee I charged for the job paid better than the minimum wage, but you would not want to retire on the difference.

[Oops! As I was preparing to send out the documentation package, I noticed I had overlooked a Word file named "Profile Form." Bad news. Over the years, I've found that companies that collect such data tend to assign work based on the data you provide, and where the most important criterion after language combination is virtually always price. As a result, I've observed that the probability of actually getting future work from such outfits is generally inversely proportional to the volume of data requested. We'll see.]

Other invoices were made out while I had the program open, but I can't begrudge that time, can I?

Of the routine stuff, I've done one of three edits. The Russian side continues to do revisions—sloppily—by manually highlighting changes. (The sloppy part has to do with how changes made last time are still highlighted!) If this continues for any length of time, then my proposal to have me sent to the document originator's site to train the staff there to use revision mode may grow legs.

Next up on the list, despeckle the metalworking piece. Then two more edits of The Routine Stuff™. Then more invoicing. Then start on the next archeology piece.

Sounds like a Wednesday!
