All of that gallivanting about during the past two days was paid for today, which was mostly devoted to work, but at least at a leisurely pace.

While away from the keyboard, I've "repurposed" a cheap steel bookend to serve as a mount for a small whiteboard. The bookend is thin steel plate with a "U" cut in it and then bent at 90 degrees along a line that runs along the top of the "U."

The setup is pretty simple and requires no mechanical skill. The first step is to insert the flat, bent-up section under some books on the top shelf of a convenient bookcase. The base of the bookend is now oriented vertically and located at the front edge of the shelf. The next step consists in affixing magnets to the back of the white board (a $1 garage-sale bargain, which included magnets). I can now "hang" the board in a place that's convenient for me to see and to write on, yet the whole arrangement can be removed quickly should the need arise.

A pass by the Half-Price Books store at the intersection of El Camino and NASA Parkway revealed that there was not a single copy of Montaigne's Essays in any of their stores! This either vouches for the immense popularity of the book, or suggests that nobody ever sells their used copy back to the chain. A true mystery, to be sure.

As I steal a glance at the time in the corner of the screen, I am a bit taken aback. It feels like it's much later. Ah, well. I think I will go watch some Tube, and then go examine the inside of my eyelids for a while.

Cheers...
