Bad feelings averted...
Dec. 21st, 2012 08:24 pmAs a step to further configure the new ASUS, I moved some install files to a thumb drive and inserted the device in the new machine.
Nothing happened.
I fetched another thumb drive. Inserted it.
Nothing happened. No flashing lights, and most important—no recognition of the device.
I fetched a USB external drive. Inserted it.
Its LED came on and I could hear the drive quietly spin up, but it did not appear among the storage devices available to the computer.
I googled the problem. No help, no matter how I described my predicament.
While I mulled over what to do next, I uninstalled the McAfee antivirus/malware/etc. that had come installed on the machine, as it had been bugging me to activate it and now was telling me that my trial period was up.
Upon restarting the machine, all the devices plugged into the USB ports suddenly came to life.
I knew there was a good reason (other than wanting to install my own licensed version of avast!) for getting rid of the McAfee junk!
Cheers...
