Left the house to get a hearing test to confirm suspicions.

Came home with "augmented" hearing.

The tech's prognosis regarding what to expect is right on, so far. I can hear "everything" (and it's loud).

Well, I doubt that, because the environments I've typically worked in have been fairly quiet over the years.

On the other hand, I've heard that factors from one's youth, such as exposure to loud concert music (I still remember this one particular Joe Cocker concert where the sound about knocked me unconscious) and various explosions and small arms fire (from my time in the Marines), can have a decided effect decades later. By the time you start taking hearing protection seriously, it's too late!

It's a whole new world out there (or in here, more likely).
