I happened to run across an article—I forget where—that described a USB device that allows you to add a monitor to a computer setup (multiple devices allow multiple monitors, up to 8 for those who really like to multitask). The item attracted my attention because my ASUS S56C only supports the physical connection of an HBMI monitor or a VGA monitor (but not both), which effectively restricts screen expansion to one external monitor. And while the display on the ASUS is actually big enough to work with while on the road, I do miss the extra screen real estate that was available with my previous Acer notebook, which allowed two external monitors to be connected at one time, at the cost of not being able to use the machine's own LCD screen.

Considering the investment was only $50 or so, I sprang for a DisplayLink UGA-2K-A multi-display adapter, which arrived today. I just installed it (easy-peasy), and the image quality on the new screen appears to be first-rate (not only that, but its actually running my Acer H213H monitor at a resolution of 2048 x 1152).

I am impressed. I will probably do reconfiguration tomorrow (physically moving monitors and machine around), or I may wait until some time during the weekend, but I am definitely impressed and looking forward to using the new setup. The Plate™ is not exactly empty, and clients are expecting stuff back on Monday.

I was concerned that the urgent translation assignment that arrived yesterday was going to require the better part of two days to finish. Instead, I managed to get the whole thing done by the end of the day today, with enough time left over to watch a film titled The Intouchables with Galina on Netflix. Lately, the measure of how much I like a film seems to be measured by how long I can watch it without being overcome by an irresistible urge to go look for something else to watch. In fact, however, I stuck with The Intouchables until the end. That's gotta count for something.

Lots and lots of rain. I took the dogs for a short walk this afternoon to pick up the mail, and suffered only a few drops between here and there. However, between there and here, the heavens opened up and by the time we got back to the house, all of us were soaked to our skin. (Thank Providence for plastic-encased advertising materials, which protected the important stuff from the water.)

Cheers...
