Got a call a few minutes ago, which prompted the following email response from me to the company involved:
To Whom It May Concern,

Please be advised that you (or someone impersonating you) attempted to get in touch with me by phone today and prompted me to enter personal information in response to computer-generated spoken requests. The calling phone number was shown on my Caller ID as (800) [redacted].

If this was an actual call from [redacted], please be informed that I will not give out personal information in this manner. If there is a need to get in touch with me, please use my email address, which you have on file.
Cheers...

Sounds phony to me. Eek. I wonder how many people give away personal information to identity thieves that way.

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a "legit" call (in the sense that the company actually made the call), but that doesn't really change the situation.

Social engineering is a fact of life that few people get the "training" to deal with.

Cheers...

I got an e-mail from Adobe last night. Apparently their system has been hacked and 'user' information stolen. Since I use Acrobat Professional products for work, they are registered with my 'real' information.....I'm expecting to get similar phish calls in the near future.
