Scads of work done, more arriving, a regular circus.

Not complaining, mind you.

Today, Galina tried making something called a "lentil loaf" that we found on some site or other and bookmarked. The principal ingredient is, naturally, lentils, and the dish also contains mirepoix, spices, oats, and other goodies, such as flax seed. The result isn't bad (and might actually be improved with just a little salt), but the name sort of implied, or at least called up, the memory of good, old-fashioned meat loaf, and with that in mind, the comparison fails in terms of texture and mouth-feel.

Galina and I have been on a beef-chicken-and-pork-free diet now since the beginning of the month, mostly for the purpose of seeing what it would do in terms of helping us lose weight. In terms of how "faithful" I've been to the diet, I've had only a few thin slivers of meat with phở a little while ago and whatever was inside some pelmeni Galina bought last Saturday night.

I felt neither particularly good nor bad after eating the meat. I am also finding that although I'm not "missing" meat, I don't think I'd turn down a nice steak dinner, either. After all, I'm not doing this to prove any philosophical points, I'm doing this just to lose weight (and save a little money... have you seen the price of meat?)

Apropos of weight, I've lost about 13 pounds since the start of the month, though it would appear I have hit something of a plateau, recently. Doubtless, my daily exercise regimen is helping.

Time to hit the sack. It's been a long day, and the work plate is full, full, full...

Oscar and I were in Germany for the last two weeks. Amazingly, we each came home having lost a little weight. That's after schnitzel nearly every day (breaded and fried meat, usually pork) ice creams on at least three occasions, pastries about that often, and, in the case of Oscar, at least two beers every day. We did a fair amount of walking, though I was not swimming my usual 20 - 30 minutes per day, nor was Oscar swimming his usual 3 X week ocean miles.

The only thing I can figure is that while home, we graze far too often. When he gets home from work, he hits the nuts, the chocolate chip silo ( 2 gallon re-purposed pickle jar) and the like. And he spends a large amount of his work day behind a desk.

Maybe it's just the water over there. Or maybe their beer is actually a special reducing recipe!
