I reported promptly at 8 this morning at the MCC, ready to do some work on the so-called "execute package," which is a collection of schedules for the crew showing what the crew is expected to do today, what the schedule for communications sessions is, some preliminary indication of what the future will bring, and - just to be on the safe side - information that provides the crew with the basic data needed to land back on earth should the Unthinkable occur, adjusted for where the ISS is in relation to various landing sites at various times in the day.

Initially, I had believed the work would take place in the "other" part of Building 30, i.e., the part that does not house the actual control rooms. Instead, I find the room I'm to work in is a floor above the ISS control room. This is no big deal, except that I didn't bring my headset (a problem that will be solved tomorrow).

At least it's nice working during the day (though you couldn't tell from inside the structure, which is windowless). I understand I'll be working during the day until at least next Sunday. After that, it's anyone's guess...:^)

One problem that won't be solved tomorrow is having a user name and password to log into the MCC network. While I managed to survive without them today (I brought my own laptop), I still had to ask the ops planners I was working with to repeatedly print out documents so I could verify my work. My understanding is that a user name and password are "in work," but I also know that such items are not given out casually.

I went out for a walk a few minutes ago, after having walked the dogs. I really have to learn (relearn, actually) to relax a bit, else I'll stress myself out in short order. While walking the dogs, I started to get annoyed with their habit of running around me, seemingly trying to get me tangled in their leads. I mean really annoyed. The walk afterward was calming; at least I didn't think about anything except the shape of my shadow(s) on the pavement as I walked past various street lights and porch lights.

By the way, I saw my first lit set of Christmas lights of the season. It wasn't much of a display - especially in a neighborhood that, last year, seemed to pride itself on lavish displays of cheer that suck down HL&P's generating capacity - but the requisite colored lights on a string were there. I imagine by next Monday, there'll be a lot more lights on display.

Things are going swimmingly. There are invoices to write, loans to apply for, and all sorts of other excitement to revel in.

Cheers...
