Having adequate transport has been a chronic problem in the family for a while. There's one less car in the family than there are drivers, and since I am the one who has needed the car least (go to work; come back), I've been existing sans auto for a while.

That mode will not work here in Colorado. Fortunately, Drew is around and I've been cadging rides from him for the past few days to get to the store, but it requires a bit of shuffling.

I was afforded a temporary fix yesterday when my friend Feht offered to lend me his older car for a while. "It doesn't look nice," said he, "but it runs." The two conditions of the transaction were: First, I must figure out what causes the battery to lose its charge after about 8 hours or so, and second, I had to go to Feht's house last night for dinner, chitchat, and whatever else came to mind (we watched Starship Troopers on his new DVD setup).

Everyone should have a friend like Feht.

The business Galina and I purchased here in Pagosa Springs provides packaging and mailing services, and serves as a contract postal unit and drop-off point for FedEx and UPS. There is a steady traffic through the store of people coming in to get their mail, as well as folks who want to send things.

I think I'm picking up the mechanics of the job pretty well, having come to the job with a lot of customer service experience but not much day-to-day retail experience. I'm starting to notice that the questions I'm asking are going into more detail as I go along, and that's good.

I did my first postal report yesterday, and I'd grade myself at 90%, which is probably not bad for a first time after having seen the process done once, but in this case, it's definitely not good enough for "gummint work."

In the in-between times, I'll have to give some serious thought to putting the square footage in the rest of the store to good use, as I believe it to be underutilized, but as I said, that issue is for my delectation "while I'm restin'."

Time to get ready for the Saturday traffic.

Cheers...
