A couple of nights ago, I went to bed around 8:30 pm and then woke again at 12:44 am (ah, the tyranny of digital displays!). I finally managed to fall asleep again around 3:30 and then snooze-alarmed my way to about 5:40 am or so before getting up.

This morning, I woke at 2:44 am (interesting that the last two digits match...hmmm?), after having gone to sleep sometime after 10. I again snooze-alarmed past my usual 5 am wakeup, all the way to about 5:50 am.

I am still groggy. Bleah.

I downloaded the text of Hamlet last night and skimmed through to see what job lies ahead in trying to absorb Polonius. I seem vaguely to recall he gets his comeuppance somewhere in the middle of the play or so, but from what I've skimmed so far, it promises to be a challenging part.

Running the store, however, promises a more immediate and more pressing challenge. I spent a lot of time yesterday dealing with customer complaints, and it would really help a lot if a certain carrier with whom we deal could keep their computer files in order. When I called regarding a claim and read the number to the person who answered the call, I was told, in effect, "what claim?" I called again and a different person found the claim, but said they needed a tracking number to continue (but the purpose of my call was to get that number!). Finally a third call netted me all the information I needed. Aargh!

Then I got down into the details of the invoice sent to me by the carrier and noticed that the store is being charged about a dollar extra for every package that ends up going to a residence (as opposed to a commercial entity). Fortunately (?), there is a rate increase on the part of the carriers that is set to go into effect on the 5th (a reaction, no doubt, to the postal rate increase from the beginning of the year), but if I factor the extra buck in at the same time, some rates will appear to go up way more than the relatively small increase proposed by the carriers.

Time to get ready for work...and the appointment with the lawyer.

Cheers...
