Rare unanimity...
May. 14th, 2001 01:15 pmIn a rare display of unanimity, the Supreme Court today ruled that California cannabis clubs may not legally distribute marijuana as a "medical necessity" for seriously ill patients.
A story on the Reuters news wire noted that Justice Thomas, in writing for the court, indicated that the case raised "significant questions" about the government's ability to enforce the nation's drug laws, noting that the only exception provided in the law concerns government-approved research projects.
"It is clear from the text of the act that Congress has made a determination that marijuana has no medical benefits worthy of an exception," wrote Thomas in the 15-page ruling.
I find this last item very interesting. It would appear that Barry Goldwater was right when he said: "Any government big enough to do things for you is big enough to do things to you."
Cheers...
