There is a restaurant that we pass every day on the way to and from the store. It's called Isabels, and the building has housed a number of eateries over the past half dozen years. We went there this evening to celebrate Galina's birthday.

The food was actually pretty good. I decided to be rather unimaginative and ordered a steak special, while Galina ordered leg of lamb. Drew devoured a surf-and-turf, while Shannon had a salad of some kind with avocado, asparagus, spinach, and many, many tiny shrimp.

The day went pretty well. I volunteered to open the store this morning, to give Galina a break. I slipped home around 4 pm to deliver some flowers to the homestead (a dozen long-stemmed red roses) and some bedding plants.

In terms of marketing my translation services, I managed to make one call to a gentleman who probably has been involved in translation since shortly after that business with the Tower of Babel. His response, basically, was a polite "Don't call us, we'll call you." That's okay by me; at least I managed to convey to him that I can provide interpreting services, too.

I have managed to get myself signed up to several mailing lists about business opportunities in Russia, but what I really need is to find out who the other recipients of these messages might be. They are my potential direct clients.

In the meantime, there is no word regarding a potential assignment near the end of the month somewhere in Texas, not related to NASA, but involving the disarmament business. My resume is - if I say so myself - impressive, but incumbents generally have the advantage of momentum in this process. The company trying to sell my services doesn't hold out much hope, but you never know.

I'm pretty ambivalent about the assignment, anyway. Heck, I'm ambivalent about any assignment that takes me away from here, though I do need to earn the cabbage. My invoices for translation work done in Colorado this month so far are far better than they've been for any month this year, but they also fall far short of what I need in order to make a living. No biggie... the clients will come.

Gotta go get some shuteye and let that steak settle.

Cheers...
