A blur, I tell you, a blur...
Jul. 8th, 2001 11:06 pmThe day went by pretty fast.
I spent a few hours this morning cleaning up, which included the unpacking of a new Dirt Devil carpet cleaner that we bought in Durango yesterday. It does a pretty good job of getting stains out of the carpet, though Ming - poor fellow - did not like the racket at all, and later got back at me for disturbing his rest by leaving a couple of "presents" in a bedroom I'd just finished cleaning.
I then sat down to attack the first of the three assignments that are due on Wednesday. That turned out to be the rest of the file I worked on last week (at that time, the end client had elected to skip having the tables translated... and now the client wants them).
It was not a pleasant task, but I was able to use Déjà Vu on the file, which I thought would make the work go faster (and in some sense it did), but what the software gods give, they sometimes take away. I ended up having to spend an inordinate time reformatting and otherwise checking the output of the program. I think I will do the remaining two files the "old-fashioned" way... just me, a computer, and MS Word.
Tomorrow will be pretty bumbled up sometime during the day, as I'll no doubt want to take a couple of hours off to greet Shannon's parents when they pull in. They called a few hours ago to say they were leaving, and that they'd be here tomorrow morning... or maybe the afternoon. (They're driving... in an RV! If they pull an all-night session, they might get here by mid-morning; otherwise, I estimate around 3-4 pm tomorrow, if all goes well.)
Drew has been cleaning the place like crazy... good for him. We finally changed the burnt-out light bulb over the front door; the one that's about 15 feet in the air. Earlier Drew flung himself around the exterior of the house with a weed-whacker, knocking down anything that looked vaguely like it was too tall. Then he was all over the kitchen, and the bathrooms are sparkling.
Both translation files (the one done Saturday and the one I finished a few minutes ago) are gone in the e-mail. I could take a look at the next file, but I think it would be a better idea to take it easy for a bit and then go to bed. I can always get up early tomorrow (like around 5:30 am) and jump on the next piece of work. No doubt I'll have to tend to some store-related chores tomorrow as well. Galina is still in Houston, and says she will try to get on the road back home tomorrow. We'll see.
Maybe I'll pick up a few more things and put them away or chuck them as I drift toward the sack...
Cheers...
