Smo-kin!

Today was one of those days where nothing really hectic happened in the course of the day at the shop, but by 3 pm, I was beat.

One of the things that I did to try to multitask better while at the shop was edit the Section 8 portion of the assignment for my client and send it off. I generally don't like to do work this way (in pieces), as it typically requires me to repeat the process of "final" tweaking and decision-making, but in this case, it may end up helping me, as I have a lot of questions about this translation.

Putting my new contact lenses in this morning was frustrating. When the lens-equipped finger touched the eye, the lens had a tendency to want to stick to the finger instead of the eye. I think I figured out, though, that I need to place the lens on the very, very tip of the finger and minimize the area of contact between the two.

(Taking the lenses out was no fun, either, but I think there my problem is that I'm afraid to damage the lens - or my eye - by being too... I don't know what... aggressive?)

As far as the lenses themselves are concerned, I must admit I can see sharply at a distance, but up close, without the reading glasses, I'm pretty helpless. Moreover, I don't know if this is just part of life with contacts, but I am still largely aware that I am wearing them. Then again, it's only day two...

I went home at 3:30 pm and immediately lay down to take a nap, setting the alarm for 6 pm. I woke up on my own at 5:59 pm (how's that for timing?) and went downstairs to start work.

Between 6 pm and 10:20 pm, I managed to eat a little dinner, talk a bit with Drew and Shannon, talk on the phone with Galina and Lee, and translate 7-1/2 pages of the document. At this point, I am about a half day ahead of schedule, but that can easily get eaten up between now and Sunday, so I'll make my proper prostrations to St. Jerome (the patron saint of translators), and intend to continue with six pages tomorrow and onward, until the thing is done and gone.

Galina is finished with her class and has paid out a duke's ransom to get back into the good graces of The Powers That Be in Texas real estate. Tonight, she apparently took Lee out to celebrate the latter's 21st birthday, which is today.

Happy birthday, kid... and many more!

(Has it really been 21 years? Wow!)

Drew and Shannon (and Huntur) leave for the Durango airport tomorrow early, and I figure it's best if they drop me off at the store on the way out. Therefore, I must make ready and get a good night's sleep myself.

Cheers...
