The two RedHat 7.2 installation CDs were used to install "Enigma" onto the eSlate. Unlike previous RedHat versions, where X Windows worked okay until you tried to move a window, the X Windows setup installed by default works first time up.

The only glitch during the install was having the installation routine hang up upon detecting two PCMCIA network cards. I removed the wireless card and restarted the installation process.

The goal for the day is to finish and check the 35-page final section to the assignment I've been working on since the beginning of the month. My "bookmark" stands at the top of page 6 (of 39).

Away!

Cheers...

A long time ago, I had occasion to learn the word "mondegreen," which refers to misunderstood lyrics, as when you think they sang:

Working my way back to you, babe, with the bird of love in sight!

when actually, they sang:

Working my way back to you, babe, with a burning love inside!

Well, as I went roaming (and not anywhere near Gilgarry Mountain... but I digress...), looking for the lyrics to a song called "Tubthumping" - by someone/something called Chumbawumba - I ran across a site devoted to misunderstood lyrics. There in plain language, was the derivation of "mondegreen":

The official word for [a misunderstood lyric] is "mondegreen," named by Sylvia Wright, who wrote a column about them in the fifties, when she told of her own misunderstood Scottish folk song, "The Bonny Earl Of Morray." She heard the lyric, "Oh, they have slain the Earl O' Morray and laid him on the green" as "Oh, they have slain the Earl O' Morray and Lady Mondegreen."

The 35 pages of the threat reduction assignment have been translated, thanks largely to sparse text on many of the pages. I even had time to "insert" a 400-word translation (done, checked, and sent back) between pages for the same client, making for about a 4,000-word day.

Thank you, St. Jerome.

My plate still contains 17 pages due Friday morning, and an editing job due Friday at 4 pm that I think I'll try to move to Monday morning. (Its sibling took a good chunk of time the other day, seeing as how the subject is programming and it just won't do to refer repeatedly to "whole numbers without a sign" instead of "unsighed integers.") If push comes to shove, though, I should be able to squeeze it in.

The pallet of electronics finally was delivered today. Junk. Nothing I've tried works. The less said the better. 'twas an expensive lesson.

Cheers...
