Where do I begin? The beginning seems so weak a place.

In any event, the details are not so important. It was another day of translation, with over 6700 words added to yesterday's effort. I am well and truly tired.

Of course, it may be that an invitation I received from a couple of fellows visiting and working in Pagosa Springs from Uzbekistan - or more accurately - the acceptance of said invitation, has helped me become what I am at this coordinate of the space-time continuum.

Drew started the whole shooting match by calling home in the middle of the day from the store and saying that Aziz (the ringleader's name) was upset about some package not having made it to his kin in the old country. Aziz, you see, along with some friends, regularly sends large boxes of what you and I would call, um, stuff, back to Samarkand, where it is aspparently Very Much In Demand. (A couple of weeks ago, he sent out five boxes weighing an average of about 30 pounds via air mail and insured for several hundred dollars each. The bill came out to more than what Drew pays for his car each month, and it was paid without complaint.)

So when I called late in the afternoon, Aziz answers and says that his brother-in-law is visiting from Denver, and he'd be honored if I'd stop by to break bread with them. I had mixed feelings about the invite (me only, not Galina, not Drew... I noticed, is all), but ended up going anyway. It was a nice gathering, with real Uzbek plov and generous amounts of vodka all around. We told jokes and ate, and shared the experience of life.

Afterward, when I got home, I well and truly did not feel much like working, but I at least finished the page I had started before leaving for the gathering.

There are 13 pages left to translate, and then there are all the figures to play with, too. I think I will go get some sleep and hit the ground running tomorrow morning. All in all, the diversion with the Uzbeks was worth the trip.

Cheers...
