Detoured!

Drew wasn't feeling very well today, so I ended up at the store the whole day, and then Galina and I had our first cha-cha lesson at 7 pm, so by the time everything was done, I wasn't the most alert Boy Scout on the block. I am glad I got to page 88 of the edit job yesterday, as I still have a chance to get everything done by noon or so tomorrow.

The cha-cha is a physically more demanding dance, for me and Galina, than the rhumba. After playing around with the basic steps, the "crossover break," and a maneuver in which the guy and the gal basically switch places, we were huffing and puffing, and left the session a little early. We both need to do something to improve our wind; dancing for a minute and then having to stop to catch our breath is not much fun.

On the work front, Client T called and despite the fact that I can only go to Houston for a week, they want me to come down. The only fly in the ointment right now is the fact that, in order to register the van in Colorado, we need the Texas title, which we cannot find. I am thinking that if we well and truly have to apply to the State of Texas for another copy of the title (which will take a couple of days, unless I miss my guess), I may want to try to convince Drew to let me drive his Honda to Texas and back. I have a feeling this is going to be a very hard sell, as Drew and his Honda are pretty much inseparable. The last time I suggested this, he did Not Like The Idea At All.

The bottom line, though, is this: I am really need to leave first thing on Saturday, in whatever vehicle I use.

I paid off all my eBay auction wins today, including a wide-SCSI hard drive that I plan to use with the Thinkpad docking station. I keep planning to sit down and put stuff on eBay, but every time I get up the stamina to do so, something like this Houston trip crops up. I'm probably a control freak in this respect, but after coming back home to find things - important things - undone, there is no way I'm going off and leave folks in charge of fulfilling the eBay stuff. Drew could not care less, while Galina dismisses the little post-auction dance with the exchange of e-mails, etc. as way too complicated, and happily leaves it to me. (Heck, several times, she's bought things on eBay and assumed that I'll take care of it, which I won't if I'm not in the process of bidding on something or if I have nothing on sale).

I don't know why it continues, but I suspect there is some friction between Shannon and Galina left over from their little commotion the other day about the Drew, Shannon, and Huntur going to California. The past three nights, the three of them have pretty much left the house early in the evening, after Drew gets home from work, leaving us oldsters to fend for ourselves and returning only late (they just got back a couple of minutes ago). I feel awkward, for although I am not the recipient of any dirty looks, or anything, I sense a certain coolness, nevertheless.

I'd ordered a cylinder of helium from a welding supply place in Durango on Friday, and the gas was delivered today. The guy who brought the cylinder in made the observation that mylar balloons don't do well at our high altitude, but I very well recall seeing mylar balloons floating around up here, so we'll just have to see about that. I hope I'll have an opportunity to stop by a party supply shop while in or en route to/from Houston and pick up some quality helium balloons.

Sans any real dinner, Galina and I retired and finished watching the last part of Apocalypse Now Redux. It's evident that Coppolla has put together a substantially different movie with Redux, and the performance at the end featuring Marlon Brando is quite stirring. I only regret we did not see the whole thing.

I'm going to have to go directly to work tomorrow morning on my editing job. If I do make an appearance at the store, it will have to be after the job is finished. Then Drew and I have to take care of some store-related items before I leave for Houston - specifically our statements - because they are way, way behind in terms of getting sent out.

Cheers...
