A day like any other...
Sep. 20th, 2002 10:09 pmQuoting the punch line to one of the few language jokes I know:
"Yeah.....Ri-i-ight."
For the third week in a row, the table set up for the local hams at the Lodge was half occupied. Mack and Maria J. are off in Maine, celebrating their golden wedding anniversary. In their place were two people whose names I ought to recall offhand, but can't.
A good time was had by all, and my eggs were even hot today. Progress.
I opened the store, and processed packages for several tourists who had gone a bit overboard in the souvenir department, only realizing that to be the case today, when time came to pack for the long trip home. I was glad to help out.
Upon returning home, I reviewed and sent in the first 18 pages of El Humungo, which kinda took the wind out of my sails. After a short nap, I sat down and continued to plow my way through a set of safety instructions intended for drivers of cargo vehicles. I just quit a couple of minutes ago, after laying down 3000 words for the day.
At 7 pm local time, I cajoled Galina into putting on the Fox channel, to watch a show called Firefly (Slashdot had an item about it). I cannot say this is the ne plus ultra of science fiction shows, but it shows promise. The follow-on program, John Doe, started with an interesting premise, but not one so interesting as to keep me away from finishing my work.
Drew and Shannon want to go off somewhere tomorrow, and leave Huntur with us. I certainly have no objection... in fact, I'm looking forward to it. Looking at what's left of El Humungo, I have just over 50 pages and 6 days. I'll likely do a few pages upon rising tomorrow morning, and may actually get a goodly chunk done before other things come to the fore. (That's been my problem for a while... I generally am a lot sharper in the translation department in the mornings, but by the time I'm finished at the store, the morning is shot, and generally I'm already bushed to one degree or another.)
Falling asleep right about now sounds like a plan.
Cheers...
