Tired, I guess...
Nov. 8th, 2002 12:41 pmI got up at my usual early time this morning, went to the continental breakfast that the conference organizers laid out for everyone prior to the day's first session, and then went upstairs to work some more on my presentation. I fell asleep, instead.
I've spent the last half hour struggling with stuff online from my room, and between that and finding out that Lee didn't FedEx the rent check to the bank when I asked her to, has my blood pressure up a few points. As a result of her tardiness, I've ended up paying a whopping amount of money in penalties, which I'll never see from her.
Anyway, I did manage to get something done online, even if mostly in the damage control arena.
My presentation still has me worried, in terms of it being too technical for my audience. I probably won't have too much opportunity to work on it between now and actually giving it, but I will have to do what I can.
The featured speaker for the SLD's Susana Greiss Lecture never showed up at the airport, apparently. The person who has poured a lot of effort into lining up speakers over the past few of years got up at 3 am to meet the speaker at the airport and came back empty-handed. I was prepared to let the fellow crash in my room until his room would be available, but it turns out that he's had a reservation here since the 6th, so my offer was not really necessary.
He's due to deliver his lecture in about an hour. I'd best go get a bite to eat. My presentation with Lydia S. and Nora F. (based on the Pushkin poem featured in my LJ a couple of weeks ago) is scheduled for immediately after the Greiss Lecture.
Cheers...
