The group I supported yesterday was out doing a sim today, and the group that was in a sim yesterday was in the office. I met some old friends, and things got off to an early start when two sim planners stopped by to chat.

What took place was another one of those interesting exhibitions of a fundamental conflict of operating philosophies. Without getting into detail, the American side shone at displaying what it's good at: thinking outside the box. To the credit of the Russian side, they made a solid case for circumscribing a limit as to how far out of the box one's thinking should be allowed to wander. As one of the Russians put it, "Can you imagine taking the driver license test and having the examiner start by telling you to put the car in gear and drive it past the school bus that's stopped in front of you with its red lights flashing?"

When I checked my mail from the house after returning for the day, I found a short assignment from another client, which took me longer than it normally would have, since the source document is hand written. I am not at liberty to disclose the content of the document, but it saddened me. The author is a little crazy, but in an endearing way.

Lee called from Dwayne's house, asking to be picked up. Once I got there, she was in a perfect rage, as Dwayne had apparently gone off to do his thing, despite other assurances made to Lee, who has a deadline looming for those game reveiws (the cacophony of voices from the soon-to-be-dead and dying continues behind my back as I type... I'm surprised I haven't jumped out of my chair a couple of times).

Natalie B. stopped by looking for one of the Russians and ended up chatting with me while she waited. She recommended a site to me called Стихи.ru, where one can find a fairly large number of people posting poetry. The format is somewhat LJ-like, in that other registered members of the site can leave threaded comments to your work.

I signed up, but the follow-on screen explains that the site's current policy is to subject newbies to what amounts to a probationary period, during which they can post their work, but it won't become available to others (nor will you be able to comment on the posts of other members) until The Powers That Be accept you as a full-fledged member.

It would appear that LJ's growing pains are not unique.

It would also appear that I'll have to come up with some original poetry - in Russian, I would expect - to progress there. We'll see.

Tomorrow, I have a fairly early sim (I should get to Building 30 around 7:15 am to make sure my badge will still get me in). The good news is that the early start implies an early finish, which fits in with my plans just perfectly. I feel an imminent and hard-to-satiate hunger for sushi developing.

Cheers...
