A vaguely uneasy day...
Apr. 11th, 2003 08:27 pmThe day started well, with my attendance at the ham breakfast. As seems to be increasingly the case, it's becoming more of a meeting to discuss current events, both local and global.
Unfortunately, I spent an awful lot of time last night tracking down some really abstruse terms - and not entirely successfully. So I didn't get much sleep.
After doing the report at the store, I got a call from Galina to the effect that Sasha had not returned from her morning sojourn to do her canine "business." I took the long way home, which took me south on Meadows, left on Dichoso, and then south again on Pagosa Boulevard. I ran into Galina in the van as I went down one of the side streets (when did they get a chance to be constructed?), and I followed her down Pagosa Boulevard to where Meadows joins in and turned right, toward home. Galina went on to Buttress Road, where Sasha had taken refuge last time she had gone wandering.
I turned onto Rifle, because Sasha has been known to hang out there, and one of the homeowners saw me and had come out to the road by the time I was coming back. It turns out her dog (one Sasha visits, apparently) had gone missing, too. In my mind, I could see this mini-"pack" of two dogs roaming around in the wild, with no thought for home.
Anyway, I screamed myself hoarse (SAAAAAaaaa-SHAAAAAAaaaaaa!!!!!) while driving around, without really meaning to. I also periodically went to doors and windows during the afternoon and called her name, after Galina called to say that the other dog had come home sometime in the mid-afternoon. My throat hurts like the dickens right now.
I tried to take a nap in the early afternoon, but that didn't work. I watched some of Lovely to Look At on Turner Classic Movies, and enjoyed the music and Red Skelton's schtick. However, I couldn't fall asleep and didn't feel like getting up. But I did anyway, and got to work on the rush item due Monday morning.
Anyway, it was looking pretty hollow by about the time Galina came back from the store. I had finished my first pass through the Monday item and was looking at the next documents on my list when Sasha came bounding up the stairs to the porch.
I couldn't believe my ears, but when I got to the porch door, I saw her through the window, tongue hanging out, but otherwise looking as if nothing had happened. The only apparent effect of her day out was that she was thirsty.
I am still feeling cranky, so I don't know if I'll start on the next deadline item, which is COB Monday. Maybe I'll surf for a while and then go to sleep.
Cheers...
