Good news...
Jul. 8th, 2003 05:27 pmThe trip to Durango went well, and the results of the echocardiogram are encouraging (as I strongly suspected they would be). I'm still not at 100%, but I'm nowhere near the other extreme, either.
On the way back to Pagosa, I stopped by the Office Depot to check things out, and saw an interesting note in their front door. Apparently, their UPS machine was down, and they were suggesting that everyone take their UPS packages to the UPS office down the street instead of "The UPS Store" (formerly a Mailboxes, Etc.) that's located in the same shopping center. I found that kind of weird, since the ex-MBE place is UPS, and not an ASO (an Authorized Shipping Outlet, say, the way we are at the store here in Pagosa).
I ended up not buying anything, as we are pretty well set up on supplies, but did look at the clearance stuff (which generally is pretty junky). Not this time. There were some leather items there from "Geoffrey Allen," including a so-called Multiple Pen Carrier, which will hold up to four pens in a zippered case. For $2, the price could hardly be beat (I've seen comparable pen cases for sale for up to $30, though I am sure one could spend more if one applied oneself...), so it was a nice and inexpensive way to celebrate the good news I got from the doctor.
I don't believe I wrote that. :^)
* * * After firing off a cheeky note to TRADOS support (I got no response to the last message I sent them yesterday), I did just one more thing to try to get TRADOS to work on the VAIO. (Previous to my cheeky note, I had reinstalled Word 2000, disabled my virus scanner, and killed off a number of processes, one by one, running in the background, all to no effect.)
That "one more thing" was to disable something that showed up in my tray and is part of my virus software suite, called Office Guard. It was set to maximum security, which basically means it was doing its best to keep "complex" Word macros from doing their thing (and TRADOS macros are, if nothing else, complex). Apparently, killing off the main virus-scanning application doesn't take out all of the components of the suite, so I had to disable that particular component by hand.
When I did... ba-da-BING! TRADOS started working. I think I will let the support guy stew for a couple of hours tomorrow morning before I let him know I solved the problem.
Before settling down to play with TRADOS, I finished the article due tomorrow (and incorporated the updates shown in a file received separately). I think I will write and send the invoice in the next few minutes and then return to 60K.
Cheers...
