Timing is all...
Oct. 3rd, 2003 03:21 pmI finally got to the point where I printed out the store's accounts receivable using my home-brewed Perl script. I know I ought to use the QuickBooks, and I will, but first we need to straighten out the accounts. It's going to be a nice payday for the store, as I have not been able to generate said statements for a couple of months or more. (As an aside, it's interesting to see which of our clients have paid their invoices regardless of the lack of statements, and which seem perfectly content to wait for a statement before parting with money, though I am not making any judgments, here.)
Feht called, saying I should expect a call with an offer to do some ungodly number of pages by Monday. I did, in fact, get the call. The associated files were late in arriving (in fact, they did not arrive on my normal work account, but did on my Web-based email). The delay was fortuitous, for as I was reviewing the document and mulling over the prospect of morally indenturing myself for an uncomfortable weekend (15,000 words by Monday), I got Yet Another Call™, this time, for 11,000 words in a subject I know better, for a better rate, and due two days later.
That's, like, the definition of a no-brainer.
Nevertheless, in a frenzy of greed and masochism, I took 5,000 words of the first client's job for Monday, mostly because I'd never worked with the project manager who was offering the work (it never hurts to score some points with new project managers).
Drew is planning to go to Durango later today, probably after work (which means either after the store closes or after the UPS pickup). In any event, I plan to go with him if for no other reason than to enjoy the ride to and from Durango with my son. I'm not sure it's going to be that much of a male-bonding experience, as we plan to visit the Wal-Mart, but I plan to take my moments of enjoyment where I can, when I can.
Now, I need to go to the store and discuss some of the statements with Drew, and probably help out with the imminent UPS pickup.
Cheers...
