Blowing through my free time...
Nov. 1st, 2003 10:28 pmIt's funny how I start to think of the period between 3 pm Saturday and Monday morning as the time during which I can work without interruption. It's as if the concept of "weekend" has pretty much evaporated.
Since walking home from the store around 2 pm, I managed to finish the 31-page job due Monday and the other job due the same day. This leaves one document on my plate, due by next Friday (Tuesday, actually, unless I plan to work in Phoenix, and while I have done translations while at ATA conferences, they're no fun to do, especially as they tend to cut down on the sessions one can attend).
The walk home was my idea, though the implementation - with precipitation imminent and a cold wind blowing - was less than perfect. On the other hand, it does allow me to place a healthy check next to the "Exercise" item on my daily to-do list, and I don't really get to do that often.
During the day, Shannon's parents stopped by the store and in the course of our conversation, I was invited to their new house here in Pagosa for dinner. Drew picked me up around 6 pm and we stopped at the City Market so I could get a bouquet of flowers for the house. The house seems like a nice place, although the moving truck appears to be taking its sweet time getting here, so it was pretty much empty of furniture. We all had chili and cornbread, and the kids - Huntur among them - had some corn dogs and ice cream. It was a nice break from the routine.
As far as tomorrow is concerned, there is quite a selection of tasks from which to choose. Whatever I do decide, my choice will have to take account of the fact that I only have Monday and Tuesday to finalize everything before leaving for Phoenix (actually Tempe) on Wednesday.
This puts a fairly high priority on finalizing my presentation at the conference. While I can rehearse my performance in the hotel room, and apply any final tweaks to the presentation there, the bulk of the slides must be finished by the time I leave.
There is also the issue of finally getting down to marking the exams for the grading committee, so that I might join the ranks of the ATA's graders. I fear that my tardiness in returning the tests might be hurting my nomination; not having them done by the start of the conference would almost certainly Not Be A Good Thing™.
So, it would appear that those two items plus the remaining translation would be the top three tasks to tackle tomorrow. I'll double check this with my "official" to-do list tomorrow. It's late, and I'm tired.
Cheers...
