Circulating, here and there...
Feb. 26th, 2004 06:32 pmI've mentioned before the pitfalls of working in an environment where there is effectively an infinite quantity of work to do. Under such circumstances, it is essential to focus on what you've done, or the rate at which things are done, rather than on the pile of stuff that's left.
Today's work started a 40-odd page document and translated about 2800 words of the content. I think I'm about 1/3 of the way through, so the chances of finishing the item tomorrow are fairly poor, unless the pages get sparse all of a sudden.
I sent out a bunch of invoices this morning, which only confirmed to me that February billings are kind of thin. That was to be expected, considering I was sick for a spell in the middle of the month.
If I count this past week as a February billing (and I should, except that the invoice will technically be dated March 1), I shall have posted about 90-95% of my expected minimum "nut" for the month; if I don't, then my current billings will be about 70% of where they should be. In the end, it won't really matter, because the payment for this past week (as well as the invoices sent today) will more than likely look like responses to March invoices.
Another freelance assignment came in over the transom while I was at work. I really should look at it; even though it's due on Monday.
As should be painfully obvious to everyone, despite the fact that I have returned home, my mind is still squarely set on work. Ye gods.
Cheers...
