A refreshing alternative...
Aug. 31st, 2004 09:08 pmAlthough watching paint dry is a viable alternative to watching coverage of the RNC, there is unfortunately no paint here at the house in Pearland. The local Hollywood Video did, however, inaugurate a new program this past weeked wherein one pays a fee of $9.99 (introductory, for the first three months) for the right to rent any specially labeled video in the store. By "specially labeled," we're talking about a fairly extensive selection of stuff that lines the walls (new releases?), except for the really recent stuff.
Last night, Galina and I watched Paycheck with Ben Affleck and Uma Thurman and a French-Canadian film called The Barbarian Invasions. Both films were entertaining, although the latter had a somewhat unusual take on what it means to "celebrate life" (not to mention, it would seem, on what it means to be a patient in the Canadian health care system).
Tonight, we watched Against the Ropes, and I have to admit I got a little itchy in the middle, where the plot became as predictable as the smell of rain in front of thunderstorm, but somehow I made it through.
Anyway, the movie is over, and the tube is now showing Schwartzenegger as he addresses the RNC. Interesting speech. I think I'll watch the rest.
Cheers...
