A good chuckle...
Sep. 1st, 2004 03:51 pmA blonde is participating in a game show to win a million dollars, and is asked the following questions:
1) How many years long was the Hundred Years' War?
a) 116 b) 99 c) 100 d) 150
The blonde skipped the question.
2) In what country are Panama hats made?
a) Brazil b) Chile c) Panama d) Equador
The blonde polls the audience for help.
3) In what month is the Great October Revolution celebrated?
a) January b) September c) October d) November
The blonde calls a friend at home.
4) What was King George VI's name?
a) Albert b) George c) Manuel d) Chombdeley
The blonde takes out a set of fortune-telling cards.
5) What animal are the Canary Islands named for?
a) Canary b) Kangaroo c) Dog d) Rat
The blonde is eliminated from the game.
Now, if you enjoyed a laugh at the expense of our poor contestant, let's see how you did:
1) The Hundred Years' War lasted 116 years, from 1337 to 1453.
2) Panama hats are made in Equador.
3) The Great October Revolution is celebrated in November.
4) King George VI's name was Albert. He changed it in 1936.
5) The Canary Islands take their name from the Latin word for "dog." The Latin name of the islands, Insularia Canaria, means (roughly) "dog island," after the wild dogs that roamed the islands, as reported by Pliny.
Personally, I started to smell a rat with question 3, since every good student of Russian/Soviet history knows that one.

Cheers...
