I have to say I have really enjoyed translating the incinerator operating manual (I'm all but finished). It all made just so much sense as I was translating... up until I got to the last appendix, which flat-out contradicts the main text. The contradictions don't make sense, either, given my control systems background.

What to do? Remaining silent invites the English-speaking reader of the translation to think bad thoughts about the poor translator, who is only doing his job.

How about this footnote:
Translator's note: Generally speaking, the reader is advised that Appendix 2 contains much information that contradicts earlier text (compare, for example, the explanation given below for CCU burner switch operation with the text in section 12.1.5). Such contradictions reflect the Russian original text.
It's not foolproof, but at least it's proactive, no?

Cheers...

The work is finished and invoiced. (The same day! Will wonders never cease?)

September is looking good, compared to a horrid July and fairly lackluster August.

The ATA conference in Toronto is just over two weeks away. I am leaning very strongly toward driving the distance, so I can swing by the folks on Long Island on the way back. (Yeah, I know, NYC is not exactly "on the way" back from Toronto to Colorado, but humor me, okay?)

I plan to use the driving time to unwind, believe it or not.

Now, I suppose I should go off to attack what I suspect is a honeydew list from Galina.  After lunch, of course!

Cheers...
