Oct. 18th, 2004

I slept soundly last night and for nearly 10 hours, which is not like me at all. After breakfast, I took a walk down the road I'd walked so many times when I was a tad of less than 20, to the beach and back.

The word on the Kazakhstan trip is that one should wait for the word, but that October 30 is not far from the correct date. I am drawing up contingency plans in case the actual date is that day or earlier. It may simply not be worthwhile to drive all the way back to Colorado from here, especially if I must spend a night on the road somewhere if I start off for Europe from Durango. On the other hand, sticking around in this neck of the woods is not exactly a good idea, either, especially if there is no work to be done.

My voice is a little hoarse from speaking with my parents, catching up on the time since my last visit. In that time, we all have aged, and now it takes a little extra acoustic energy to excite electrical impulses in my parents' ear nerves. Старость, as they say, не радость.

In retrospect, I am finding the long-distance drive to be physically tiring. In the drive from Pagosa to Toronto, I was pretty well tuckered out on the third day. Yesterday, I was pretty much all in around Nanuet, New York. I don't think you could convince me to go anywhere behind the wheel of a car today for money.

Cheers...
