A last hurrah...
Dec. 20th, 2004 07:45 pmUsually, by this time in the holiday season, most of the packages people are wont to send have been sent. Had that been the case today, I could with confidence tell you it has been a mediocre season. At the end of the day today, that confidence is a bit less apparent, though I think it's clear that with the onset of online shopping, the volume of packages going through the store shrinks with every passing year.
Nevertheless, I spent pretty much the whole day processing UPS packages, and we sent about 140 of them out the door today. Granted, somewhere between 25 and 50 of them had been processed yesterday, in anticipation of today's rush, so the day's work really involved something on the order of 100 boxes, but even that was an effort (especially if you consider frequent interruptions).
Frankly, I was hoping to get called with a job. (No such luck.)
Tomorrow, though, things ought to become easier (or at least more interesting, from a people-watching perspective, as the circle of how far ground shipments will go by Friday dwindles and folks are faced with the alternative of shipping packages via 2-day courier service or living with having packages arrive next week).
Time to go rest. Or study French vocabulary.
Cheers...
