Latest sentence:
... The Contractor shall be fully responsible for processing and monitoring the condition of the soil, including its removal, treatment, storage, and disposal, and for careful handling of all materials and waste, and agrees to defend the Customer (Customer’s Group) and exempt him (them) from liability, and guarantee to indemnify him (them) against harm, damage, or loss resulting from and in regard to any claims, requirements, responsibility, losses, damage, suits, causes of Action, or expenses (including court costs, attorney’s fees, and other expenses related to court proceedings) related to contamination and pollution of soil caused by performance of Work by the Contractor, and/or operation of Equipment owned by or under the control of the Contractor...
The good news: this sentence contains a mere 113 words.

It has occurred several times so far in the document, each time with a subtle wrinkle (sometimes it's just the Customer, without the "Customer's Group"; sometimes, the Contractor also "releases" the Customer of responsibility). Thank goodness for the Wordfast, which points out these subtle differences and provides most of the words from the "last time" such a mess showed up on the screen.

There are still ~2700 words left to go before quitting for the day.

Cheers...

The next two sentences were 180 and 203 words long. Wordfast helped with the first handful of words in each case, but parsing the rest was pretty time-consuming, so much so that I feel that I've slowed down considerably, overall.

(Hmmm, 400 words in an hour... Yep. I've slowed down.)

O-kay!

I've done my self-assigned ration of contract for the day, plus 10%. Along the way, I also did a short, 200-word item for another client and promised yet another client I'd do 800 words for tomorrow noon (I plan to write that translation tonight; it shouldn't take more than an hour).

It has been one of those head-down kinds of days. I haven't spent much time away from the work desk. I tried to take a nap around 2 pm, but couldn't, and I'm not really excited at the prospect of trying to nap right now. (One wrong move and POW!!, the nap turns into a sleep session and a subsequent inability to do rack drill until the wee hours.)

I do need to go stretch the old legs, though.

Cheers...

So I went upstairs to stretch my legs and ended up lying down.

And falling asleep.

Fortunately, my alarm was set for 6 o'clock, and since I must've let it ring out this morning, it went off again, this time in time to save me from waking up at some ungodly early hour (like 10 pm)... anyway.

Anyway, I went downstairs, dispatched the item due at noon tomorrow, and am now inclined to go back upstairs and veg.

I'm listening to an old favorite - Kokomo, by The Beach Boys - and letting the memories flood back. I remember I was working in Jacksonville, Florida when this song hit the charts, for a company that was doing some really innovative stuff in AI. I even applied for a job there "over the transom" a couple of years earlier, but there were no jobs available at the time. The company later was acquired by Bechtel, and still later was "divorced" from that organization. I learned a lot while working there.

I really need to go get my fat rear up from this chair.

Cheers...
