alexpgp: (Corfu!)
I got to the store early, to send eBay packages, which came off without a hitch, mostly. A call from a long-time client sent me home in short order to do an item due ASAP (surprise!), so I spent the rest of the morning working.

It was just as well, as I had for some complex reason believed today to be St. Patrick's Day. This got a raised eyebrow from Shannon, who informed me that 'twas not St. Paddy's, but if't had been, she'd surely would've worn something green. Go figure. (So I can legitimately consider Saturday's CB&C to have been a - no-pun-intended - dry run for - you-should-pardon-the-expression - the real McCoy!)

Around noon, I checked our bank account and was not pleased to find I had to scramble to keep accounts healthy. I've already sent my bank information to my current major client (7 days overdue as of today) so that when the lucre from the end client comes her way, I'll get my share soonest. (Note to self: Make a hard charge to arrange for intermediate, i.e., partial, invoices next time!)

When I got to the store after dealing with banks, it turned out it had become one of those days during which some customers, in exhibiting a surprising level of rudeness and lack of sophistication (i.e., stupidity), had helped to establish a palpable "us-versus-them" mood behind the counter. I'll spare the details, as it will allow me to not recall them (and the sooner forgotten, the better).

I returned home and napped, as I had been up since 5:30 am, courtesy of the cat, whom I am loathe to let spend the night outside, especially since it seemed that Winter has, since last night, been giving us one - hopefully - last spiteful dose of cold and cloudy weather before giving up the ghost. Upon arising, I was able to place my mind in the requisite "throw it all (almost) away, let the dump sort it out" mentality to get rid of clutter, while looking for a couple of items.

A new translation client suddenly delivered source files late in the afternoon, with the surprising specification that they be done in Trados. (The surprise is that nobody'd said anything about Trados until this afternoon.) This is probably not a show-stopper - especially given market conditions - but I did send a reply asking for a formal notice to proceed (would have done that anyway, especially with a new client), specifically stating what the deliverable products are going to be. (Note to self: Make sure NTP also clearly states payment conditions!)

I've been scanning some items that I'm throwing out, such as the little monograph on the Blackmar-Diemer Gambit that the late Russ Donnelly gave me back when we played at the Jacksonville Chess Club. Russ was a perennial 1400-1500 player who nevertheless managed some pretty games with the BDG, which was his favorite opening. Other documents are going directly to the dump, including a bunch of reference documents from 3 or more years back. (Interestingly enough, I ran across one of my first assignments from my NASA client, dated almost exactly 10 years ago!)

I better stop before this post completely withers away into a quivering, maudlin mass.

Cheers...
