It's been that kind of day.

Falling asleep last night wasn't easy. I'd napped in the afternoon, too soundly, which is what I assume kept me from sleeping until after 1 am. For the first time in longer than I can remember, Baby deigned to define some space for herself on the bed and sleep with me, but that didn't last very long: after about 30 minutes, she got up and started meowing.

I arose bright and early and bounced into the store shortly after opening, and as we had planned, I stayed until Drew came back from picking up mail. While I was waiting, Shannon came by and dropped Huntür off, and we examined the contents of her Easter basket, which was filled with eggs from a local egg hunt.

Once I got home, I washed a rack of dishes and started translating. The going was slow, as the subject is medicine, and I got up a couple of times to empty the dish rack and wash some more dishes. Drew finally came over with Huntür around 4:00 pm, by which time the plov I'd started to cook at around 3:30 was finished, and the lamb shank I'd put in the oven just after noon was a dessicated shadow of itself (definitely well done!).

After our meal, we got down to boiling and coloring Easter eggs - the real article and not the plastic items with the seams. I even tried a hand at my grandmother's specialty - boiling eggs in onionskin - but I only had enough onionskin for one egg (some other skin I'd been saving has disappeared somewhere), and probably not enough at that, as the result was mottled and resembled something, um, diseased. Still, I think the exercise was useful, the resulting eggs were colorful, and I hope it is something Huntür remembers for some time.

After Drew and Huntür left, I wound down by watching the rest of the new Kojak pilot, which I started to watch last night, but then recorded the rest of while I went downstairs to translate. The story and characters were interesting enough for me to want to see the show to the end.

So now I'm back downstairs, with about 1800 source words left to the medical text. I need to get as much done of it as I can before going to bed, because between Easter dinner tomorrow and the laundry list of work items I have to address, the day will be busy enough.

Cheers...

The medical item is finished, except for a handful of questions I have about English medical terminology. I spent an inordinate amount of time trying to nail these items while translating, so if I find myself with time to spare tomorrow, I may go back to it; otherwise, I shall leave them to the caprices of a knowledgeable editor.

One thing that made life more difficult was the suspicious absence of both my anatomical atlas and English-English medical dictionary from my reference shelf. I haven't the foggiest idea what might have happened to them, and it's not as if I go out of my way to solicit medical translations or hand reference books out to total strangers.

Ah, well. What occurs to me right now is that we forgot to break out the strawberries and whipped cream while Drew and Huntür were here earlier. And of course, I wouldn't want to risk having the strawberries go bad overnight in the fridge.

Mua-ha-ha-ha-ah!

(Of course, if I indulge right now, I'll have to stay up a little while to give the calories therein an opportunity to do something other than deposit themselves forthwith in some inconvenient place!)

Whatever did happen to those books!

Cheers...
