Marking time?
Jul. 1st, 2005 06:46 pmToday was one of those days where you get the feeling you haven't done anything, and yet, things get done. I suspect the key here is that I feel I haven't accomplished what needs to be done. Ah, well... I still have tomorrow and Sunday.
Returning the truck was a comedy of errors. I left my Zire 71 on the counter of the rental place, the fact of which was revealed when the woman who runs the place came running out after us as Galina was pulling out of the parking lot.
I also left my sunglasses, which I picked up on the way back from the Wal-Mart.
Finally, it just occurred to me that I left the keys to the lock and to Natalie's apartment on the farblegargling key ring to the truck. I'll probably call about these tomorrow, but in the final analysis, if the keys are never recovered, it'll not be all that big a deal.
Filing expense reports again took a back seat to things such as going down to the title company and signing a limited power of attorney for Galina to act on my behalf at the upcoming closing. Why the general power of attorney, which I paid a lawyer good money to draw up, won't do is not entirely clear to me. However, aside from the time it took to go down there and apply my John Hancock, it didn't cost anything, so perhaps I shouldn't complain.
The first July assignment came in today, and I got the call about it while shopping at the Wal-Mart. I may end up going over to Feht's sometime this weekend to go over the thing, as it involves quite a bit of handwritten Russian on a noisy background, the decipherment of which is not exactly my forte. Add in that these are some kind of doctor's notes, and things get smelly.
I have been able to find pretty much all of the things that have eluded me over the past couple of weeks. The one item that continues to stymie me is the 12-V charger for my GMS Siemens cell phone (the one I use in Russia). I've found the one I can use once I'm in Russia, but so far, it's looking as if I'll be arriving in Moscow with a dead cell phone.
One might suspect I'd like an egg in my beer, too, from the magnitude of my complaints.
On that note, I think I will go upstairs and rustle up something to eat for dinner.
Cheers...
